This student has been with us for about 2 months in order to prepare for the upcoming international
school admission tests. The student had a rather short time to prepare for the tests and needed
immediate guidance to his studies.
Overall, the students¡¯ basic English skills were average but lacked in key areas such as vocabulary
and writing.

Therefore, we planned our studies to accommodate for the students¡¯ weaknesses.

Personalized Lessons
Interview: The preparation for the interview consisted of 3 main practices. Each practice focused on
different aspects of an interview, allowing the student to breakdown the entire interview process into
different parts. The student was already comfortable expressing his ideas in front of people but like
most, felt nervous during simulations. We had purposely kept a tense and real-like environment during
interview simulations for the students to be familiar with the unpredictable nature of a real interview.

Writing: The student lacked the experience and proper teachings of writing an essay. It was evident
through his writing that his vocabulary and grammar needed substantial help. Due to the short amount
of time we had to prepare for the admission test, we had decided to learn the basics of an essay
including the overall structure (Intro, Body, Conclusion) and its functions. Through numerous practices
and drills, the student was able to improve his writing capabilities in a short time frame.

Reading & Map Test: Preparation for the MAP test mainly involved using a reading textbook and the
Computer program for MAP test. We have found it to be most efficient when we learn the fundamentals of several
reading-based questions on the textbook and use the program to practice each skill. The student
excelled most in the reading test and just needed to practice his skills from various approaches. To
further help with his Reading skills, we had focused on improving his vocabulary as well. By the end
of our session, the student was able to answer most reading-based questions with a high accuracy.

Challenge & Achievements:
Our main challenges came from the limited time we had to prepare for the admission tests.
Particularly, it was a challenge to learn how to write an effective essay in less than 2 months.
However, by focusing on the most important aspects of the test and following a strict schedule, the
student was able to pass his admission test for International School in Jeju.
