This student has been here
for about two months to prepare for the upcoming international school admission
tests.
She had a limited amount of time to prepare for the tests and required
immediate assistance with her studies.
The students' basic English
skills were average: she had a good understanding of the English language,
allowing her to carry on a simple conversation, but she lacked in areas such as
grammar and pronunciation, so we focused our studies on these points.
The student had previously
prepared the interview with another teacher, so our main focus was practicing
before the assessment day. The practice enabled the student to concentrate on
her intonation and pronunciation in order to convey the information
effectively. Also, as it was conducted via Zoom, she was more at ease and aware
of her posture, voice, and surroundings prior to the actual interview.
The student was instructed to
read literary and informational texts and to paraphrase the main ideas.
This
practice enabled her to communicate fluently in a variety of situations.
She
was also encouraged to speak in her own language using her vocabulary while
utilizing keywords we learned in each lesson.
In addition to the limited
time she had to prepare for the interview, the main challenge was to ensure she
felt confident and comfortable with her answers while maintaining a positive
attitude.
She had a limited vocabulary
and had a tendency to forget what we reviewed in class. The student passed her
admission test for International school in Jeju by practicing in various ways, making sure she
understood every point and taking notes on keywords.
