This
student has spent a greater part of his life abroad where he polished his
English skills.
As part of a requirement for admission to international schools in South Korea,
he
had to take a standardized exam for junior high school students.
To make his studies here
effective and efficient, a
personalized study plan was used to train him for the upcoming test.
His study plan was divided into
the following sections: Vocabulary, Reading,
Writing, and Mathematics.
The area he needed help the
most was vocabulary.
He could articulate his
thoughts quite well, but we thought that this could be improved by
blending advanced vocabulary to his tools.
The exam also demanded a good
understanding of difficult words,
so he was taught proven strategies that helped him increase his
chances of correctly inferring the
meaning of
unfamiliar words in a variety of contexts.
Because he needed to achieve
high scores in the short term, significant
amounts of homework
were given to him for study
after the lessons.
He was given detailed
feedback that
helped him understand his mistakes and was taught how to address a similar
problem in the futures.
The
right mix of academic rigor and encouragement to persevere was given to
him through his studies here.
This student, through his hard work, attained the results he wanted
and is now ready to use his new school as a
springboard of success in his later academic life.
