This Elementary student began studying at Ivy Education about one year ago when he could not speak English.
He struggled to focus in class and consistently scored well below his grade, and his capabilities, leading to self-confidence issues.
He wanted to join the same international school as his older sibling, which would mean passing an interview in English.

As the interview plays such an important role in his admission process we wanted to focus on improving his English speaking skills.
To this end, he had regular lessons with native speakers.
As he joined us with very weak English skills we began by teaching him vocabulary and exposing him to English reading.
We achieved this through the use of classroom resources, textbooks, digital tools, and teachers who could communicate in Korean.

After we had built up a foundation of English vocabulary and reading skills we moved on to more advanced skills in both writing and speaking.
We taught him the fundamentals of how to build a sentence from single words and advanced his English speaking skills
from being able to say one word to expressing full sentences.

This student had such low English skills when he joined that every aspect of the language was at one point a challenge to him.
However he had set his goals high, and with the support of our teaching staff,
he put in the effort to steadily improve until he was finally able to achieve his goal of joining his family in the school of his choice.
