This Elementary school student studied at IVY for 2 months.
When I started teaching him, he had numerous problems with fluency in English.
He had good ideas but lacked the skills to express them, however,
he was determined to work hard and get into the International School.
When he spoke, he showed multiple diction issues and confused sounds that are very different in English,
but identical in Korean.
He would give long detailed answers to a question very different from the one asked,
and would even completely miss verbs out of sentences.
We set out with five major goals, to improve his speaking, question-answering skills, interview technique,
and give him the vocabulary to both improve all these English skills,
and to allow him to answer the Maths questions that he would otherwise find impossible.
We began with core skills and vocabulary, reviewing each lesson,
using both digital tools and textbooks to aid in his learning and to provide benchmarks and goals for him.
I also taught him the phonics that are different in English and gave him exercises to practice them (which he spent a lot of time studying with his brother), this let him both better understand spoken English, and communicate his ideas with less confusion.
This Student was always a hard worker, coming into each lesson
with a well-organized folder containing both all the homework he had been assigned and notes he had made while doing the homework.
When we started he spoke in a stuttering, stop-start English.
At the end of our lessons together I was astonished by how far he had come in such a short time.
This is a testament to his hard work, and dedication to fixing every problem I laid out for him, big or small.
