 This student has experience studying at an international school during his elementary years. After coming back to Seoul, he wanted to go back to an international school.Although he was fairly comfortable communicating in English, he needed help in further developing his critical reading and writing skills to be successful on the WIDA admission test.We created a personalized study plan for him to prepare him well for the WIDA test. We solved multiple practice tests every session, and the teacher made sure each mistake is understood and strategies to avoid such mistakes were established.We tackled all five areas of English: reading, writing, listening, speaking, and vocabulary. We read passages and solved comprehension problems. We gave him essay topics to write about. His essays were checked thoroughly, and he was given feedback on how to improve his writing skills. We also has interview practice sessions, which were conducted entirely in English, to prep him for the interview. He was asked to make a list of every word he does not know and write the Korean definition beside it. He was quizzed every session on this list he made.He had to put in a significant amount of effort due to time constraints. He came to class with his homework done and received constructive, real-time feedback. The classes involved a lot of communication because the student needed to know why he got a question wrong, how he might fix it, and how he can avoid a similar mistake next time.I commend this student's "study ethic" and his determination to reach his goals. He endured through it all and successfully landed a place at the International School.
